Cryptids Infographic
Challenge:
Create an infographic about cryptids that appeals to a young audience, balancing educational content with a dynamic design. The goal was to showcase some of the sensational aspects of cryptids in a way that is fun and engaging.
Solution
The design drew inspiration from tabloids like Weekly World News and children’s science magazines to reflect the pseudo-science and sensational nature of the subject. Key elements included:
Bold Headline: The title, CRYPTIDS: Facts and Oddities, features a red horror font, with subtle monsters in the background, that immediately sets the tone for the infographic’s eerie content.
Dynamic Layout: A tall, rectangular format with irregularly divided sections avoiding right angles, creates a sense of chaotic energy and unpredictability in line with the subject matter.
Visual Storytelling: Each section featured either original illustrations or iconic cryptid photographs (such as the famous Loch Ness image and Bigfoot footage), with a focus on vibrant, saturated colors and fun compositions.
Rich Background: The deep purple backdrop unified the colorful elements while enhancing the visual impact of the saturated imagery.
I really enjoy the final result. It reminds me of kids magazines that I grew up on, like Highlights, Zoobooks, and Kid’s Discover.
